Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1 Platoon

Battlefield 1 has been available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC for a year now and I’ve owned it since the day it came out.

I’ve been a fan of the Battlefield series since Battlefield Bad Company 2 and have bought and completed each of the subsequent releases. Although I have also played all of the Call of Duty’s ever released, with the exception of the latest World War 2 edition, I favour Battlefield simply because it is superior in every single way.

Battlefield 1: Better that COD

Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1 looks, sounds and moves better than any of the COD games and doesn’t resort to bullshit gimmicks such as jetpacks, magnetic boots, flying to space stations and being able to mind control a fucking dog to appeal to customers. It just gives you an experience of war like no other console game.

Having competed the Battlefield 1 campaign with relative ease, despite the difficulty being cranked right up (what’s the point of playing it on easy?), I turned my attention to the multiplayer element of the game.

Even though it seemed like the servers were putting me among a load of mouth-breathers whenever I loaded up conquest or operations, I’d always enjoyed the multiplayer part of the game. It is a difficult enough game at the best of times when you are trying to complete objectives while some cunt snipes you from 400 meters, or someone butt fucks you with a tank or two, even when you are part of a team who seems to know what they’re doing, never mind when you’re having to act as a lone wolf among the sea of retards.

I’ll admit that I started getting a little fed up with firing up an online game, trying to complete objectives, revive team mates and all that shite, and always end up on the losing team with a shit kill/death ration. I still played the game because sometimes you need to shoot some bad guys in the face a few times to relax after work and that kind of behaviour is frowned upon in the real world.

Battlefield 1 Forums

While browsing the Battlefield forums, yes they are as nerdy as you’d expect, I saw a post asking for people to apply to be part of a team’s platoon. I posted a link to my tracked stats — more nerd shit — and despite not having a positive KD ration, my other stats fit in with how the platoon plays the game and I was invited to play a few games with them.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I am a fully fledged member of ACES platoon on the PS4. There are some fantastic players in the squad, much better than I am and by a long margin, but they all seem like a good bunch of lads who just want to have fun, take the piss out of each other, blow shit up and win at Battlefield, which is a great combination in my book.

Playing in a squad that plays the fucking objective makes the online experience so much better. My eldest lad and my eldest step-lad both play online with folks they know and have always sworn by how much better multiplayer is when you have a decent squad behind you and I have to agree wholeheartedly.

Battlefield 1: Best FPS?

I reckon that Battlefield 1 is the best first-person shooter (FPS) on the PlayStation 4, especially when you take the online aspect into consideration. Yes, there are plenty of bugs, here’s looking at you not being able to aim down sights / getting stuck on scenery / dancing around like you have Parkinson’s / fucking horrific lag, but everything comes together nicely and works properly the majority of the time.

The campaign is a bit shit, games like this tend to have a wanky single player mode because they are geared up for the online element, and Battlefield 1 is no different. If you want a better single player FPS game go play DOOM which is fantastic fun, cheap as chips and completely mental at time. Ditto Wolfenstein: The Old Blood and Wolfenstein: The New Order which are both as mad a woman with deep heat on her clitoral hood.
